MAINTENANCE

Regular preventive maintenance is probably the single thing you can do as a car owner to keep your ride happy and save money on repairs in the future. Anyone who's ever worked on cars or spent a ton of money getting their car repaired will tell you: Don't ignore preventive maintenance. The basics, like changing your oil, checking your tire pressure, and getting scheduled inspections and work done are like getting regular checkups at the doctor. They keep you healthy and give you—and the experts—a chance to catch anything serious before it becomes a major problem. With your car, that can save you thousands.

      BRAKE SERVICE

Brake calipers, pads and rotors all work together to stop your vehicle. When you step on your brake pedal, the master cylinder sends fluid to the brake calipers which squeeze together, exerting pressure on the brake pads. It's important to inspect your calipers often for signs of wear or damage. When the calipers squeeze, the brake pads clamp down on the rotors in order to slow your car. If your brake pads are worn, they can't make a smooth connection with the rotors and this can actually damage your rotors with rough spots and uneven grooves. Rotor repairs can be very costly so always make sure your brake pads are sized to specifications and that they're not worn down too far. Today, most brake pads come with wear indicators that will make a squealing sound to let you know it's time for replacement. It's best to replace them before you hear a squeal and check your brake rotors often to be sure that there is no irregular wear or damage

      CAR SERVICING

While the material an engine is made out of, how well it's built and how it's driven all affect how long the engine will last, engine longevity usually comes down to one thing: maintenance.

Any source of car part information will tell you that preventative maintenance is critical to the lifespan of any car part. Auto parts aren't built to last forever, but by applying the correct auto part information to maintaining your car parts -- especially the engine -- you can make sure the parts last a good long time.

One of the most important aspects of engine maintenance is keeping the fluids the engine requires clean and fresh. The engine is the heart of the car, and its fluids are its blood. In your own body, your blood has kidneys and a liver to keep the blood clean -- aside from the oil filter, a car engine can't clean its own fluids. That's why it's important to change an engine's oil regularly, and to make sure that change happens before the oil gets too dirty. Dirty oil in the engine is like dirty blood in your bloodstream. Things may go fine for a while, but eventually it will lead to disaster. Even small amounts of dirty buildup over time can lesson an engine's lifespan.

The engine's breathing also affects how long it lasts, because if an engine can't breathe well, it has to work a lot harder. To make sure your engine can breathe properly, you need to make sure your air filter is clean. A hot engine is also something you want to avoid -- the heat wears down vital engine components -- so make sure your engine's cooling system is working well, too.

      TIRES & SUSPENSION

it's important to do to make sure your tires wear evenly and your car drives smoothly. Tires last much longer by getting them rotated and balanced. Your alignment is just as important. If you're fighting your car to keep it straight, that's a bad situation that's easily corrected.

Your car's suspension is an area that is far more important than many people realise. It doesn't only affect how comfortable and smooth the ride is, although this is important, but it is also a vital aspect of your car's safety. Without a properly maintained and functioning suspension you can suffer adverse effects of on your car's handling, braking and acceleration, as well as unnecessary tyre wear and other issues. Making sure suspension systems are properly maintained is therefore vital.
